5M5 LIONS INVADE DENVER International Convention June 30th through July 4th If you have never attended a Lions International Convention – this year is a great year to go. The Convention is an easy drive away and the stay in Denver will be modest compared to other cities. It is not to late to register (you can even register at the Convention).
There are registration forms in past issues of the Lions magazine or you can register on lines through www.lionsclubs.org.
Each delegation from a Multiple District is housed at one hotel – the 5M crowd will be staying at the Four Points Denver University Hotel. Making a reservation through Lions International will put you with the rest of the Minnesotan’s (as long as there are rooms available).
You are invited to march with the 5M Lions in the huge convention parade. The attire for marchers is the white shirt with the 5M logo, black pants and black shoes. If you don’t have a 5M white shirt, they will be available at the 5M hotel. You will also be issued a western hat ($4) to wear in the parade.
The parade kicks off at 9:30AM on Tuesday, July 1st. Details on the parade route, and when and where to line up, will be available at the Convention.
Besides the Convention, Denver is a great city to enjoy – go back and read about it in past issues of the Lion Magazine. Plan to have a high time in the mile-high-city.
Breakfast with the 5M Lions in Denver A Multiple District Breakfast will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd at 6:30AM at the Four Points Denver University Hotel. Cost is $13 per person. Send checks to DG Cathy Plath, 619 2nd Ave.S.W., Hutchinson, MN 55350. Make checks to MD5M. Tickets will also be available in Denver, but to help in planning meal counts for the hotel, advance sales will help.
Two big Lions eventson one weekend – June 20th and 21st: #1. Opening Eyes at the Special Olympics 5M5 Lions assist eye specialist in examining athletes for new glasses. Most that need glasses will receive them while at the games at the U of M. Call Roger Badenhop at 612-721-1625 if you would like to help.
#2. The Minnesota Lions All-Star Baseball Tournament in Chaska Minnesota’s best high school ball players play Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. Great baseball that sends $25,000 each year to the Children’s Eye Clinic at the U. of M. Come watch these games in Chaska.

Brooklyn Center 1 Golden Valley 1 Club Presidents/Club Secretaries – Your Annual Lions Club Activities Report is Very Important to Lions International
The latest Annual Lions Club Activities Report (Form A-1) revealed that Lions clubs provided an average of 1,579 hours of volunteer service and US$11,315 in donations in 2001-02. All Lions should take pride in these achievements.
To report 2002-03 Lions club activities, club secretaries can submit their Form A-1 anytime before July 15, 2003. Please note the filing suggestions below.
Form A-1 on the Lions Web site
Lions club secretaries are encouraged to use the Lions Web site (www.lionsclubs.org) to electronically file their Form A-1. Electronic filing is quick, less costly, and easier to process.
a. Log onto the Lions Web site at: www.lionsclubs.org. Click into the Member and Officer Reports/Directory Information section. Use your five-digit club security password. If you are unaware of your club password, send an e-mail to: it@lionsclubs.org. Include your club number in the e-mail.
b. Complete Form A-1 on the computer screen. Indicate club activities and funds raised during 2002-03.
c. Click on “To Transmit Member and Office Reports.” This will send the completed form to international headquarters Do not mail or e-mail a second Form A-1 to international headquarters as this will create a duplicate.
d. Print out two copies of your completed Form A-1. Send one copy to your district governor; save the other copy for your club files.
Form A-1 on paper
Club secretaries received a paper version of Form A-1 in their 2002-03 Club Secretaries’ Kit. Club secretaries for 2003-04 will receive the last paper version of Form A-1. Beginning in 2004-05, Form A-1 can be completed only through the Lions Web site.
The following suggestions will help club secretaries complete the paper version of Form A-1.
a. Use only the official Form A-1. This form is identified by the code9/01 in the lower left-hand corner. Please do not use an altered version of the form.
b. Enter the six-digit club number at the top of the form.
c. Place an “x” inside the boxes located next to the club activities completed by your club during 2002-03.
d. Report donations in whole amounts and in local currency. Enter one digit per box. Do not use decimals.
e. Indicate the number of service hours and the amount of funds donated by your club at the end of each section
Mail the form to international headquarters before July 15, 2003.
Lions International needs your Activities Report –combining the totals together gives our service organization great leverage in working with governments and other organizations around the world. The impressive numbers what we do surely helped the Lions to be the very first service club to be allowed to start clubs in China.
Governor’s ReportIt’s great to be a Lion Our year is nearly over. What a great year it has been for Rosella and I. We have had the opportunity to visit all the clubs and participate in many of your fund raising events. What a pleasure it is to have met so many giving, community spirited Lions. Your dedicated efforts to help people of all walks of life who are less fortunate than yourselves does have an impact on their lives.
Wouldn’t you like to share the heartwarming feeling you get as a Lion with someone who is missing out on this great experience. Explain to them how great it feels to be a part of a team that accomplishes so much throughout the world. Tell them how you can help someone be able to see the blue sky and the green grass, hear airplanes fly overhead, hear birds sing, hear their mothers voice and see her face. Tell them that you help provide trained dogs to assist sight, hearing and physically impaired people become more self sufficient. Share with them the work we do with young people through the youth programs. Give them your Lion’s magazine and show them how your contributions to LCIF help throughout the world as well as locally. ASK THEM TO BECOME A LION.
The International Convention is being held June 30-July 4 in Denver, Colorado. Delegates attending will be voting on a dues increase of $15.00 over three years. Please consider voting favorably.
I am proud to announce that Lion Jim Ebert of the Brooklyn Park Lions Club has received the International Leadership Award. Lion Jim has served over 30 years in Lions and has been an active member of the community. Congratulations.
Thank you for allowing me to serve with you this past year. It has been a great privilege and pleasure. Rosella and I will treasure it forever.
