The 5M-5

  Informer

July/August 2004 Volume 1, Issue 12

Dear Lions, Lioness & Leos,

This is my last letter as your 5M-5 District Governor.  The Informer has been a valuable asset to get the information to ALL members of the district.  However there are many Lions that did not receive it and therefore did not know what was going on.  The Informer is the main communication for the district to pass on valuable requests, events, and general information and for clubs to publish their fundraisers.  To send it electronically is an up and coming way to help cut costs and still get the information out.  Each club is responsible and it is the least expensive way to pass the word on.  It is going to be continued during District Governor-Elect Ole Nelson’s year.

As District Governor I was able to visit all but one of our clubs and met with members of two of the three Leo clubs. What a thrill to be part of the Charter night for the Rogers Royal Leos.  Those kids were so excited and have been doing projects already.

The MD5 Multiple Convention had record attendance.  There were 185 clubs represented with 417 registered delegates.  There were 527 Lions, 44 Lioness, 10 Leos and 121 guests.  There were 106 first timers.  We had 65 representing 5M5, with four districts having more than us.  There was a power-point presentation with pictures of the deceased from each District.  Which was great to see that special person on screen, however we had poor representation of pictures.  Hopefully next year we can do better.

Congratulations to Lion Ron Jenkins representing 5M5 in receiving the new Hall of Fame award presented by PID Ross Thorfinnson.  I am pleased and proud to report that PID Ross Thorfinnson received two prestigious awards.  One is the coveted Al Jensen Leadership Award. The other the PDG Red Cap Award for continuing to serve Lionism after serving a term as District Governor.  Congratulations to you both.

Lion Timon Bonda of Golden Valley Lions and Project Coordinator for Rabonda Community project in Kenya and I are most pleased with the response from several clubs to help with supplies for this school in Kenya.  More help can be used, so if your club has some funds, contact Timon at 763-545-2828 or contact me.

Sorry to report our District had only 1594 members as of the end of April 2004.  New members 88, transfers 6, reinstated 5, lost 147 for the year.  Only one other district in the Multiple has less than 5M5.  Hopefully the report at the end of June will show an increase.

Reminder that forms for 100% President are available and that the 100% Secretary was sent out to each club.  Look over the qualifications and send the forms in.

Last, but not least, I give praise to my cabinet.  They made the year go smoothly and did everything they could to help with whatever needed to be done.  I would ask and it was done. I enjoyed working with them; they know how to be a LION.  Thank you!

                    Yours in Lionism and friendship,

                  Dist. Governor Jackie Morlock

All Clubs, when you receive your statement from International, whether you owe anything or not, it is important to keep the bottom portion of the statement. It has your access code (password) to the new membership website.  The new website has been a hassle but International believes it will be up and running in a matter of weeks.

“This is the beginning of a new day.  You have been given this day to use as you will.  You can waste it or use it for good.  What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.  When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, and in its place is something you have left behind…let it be something good.”
